Two men accused of forcing their way into a Market Street Flats apartment in Tiffin now each face a second felony count — complicity to felonious assault — in addition to the aggravated burglary charge previously reported, according to Seneca County Common Pleas Court records.
Chanler Norville, 19, of New Riegel, and Will T. Kurtz, 20, of Tiffin, were each charged by complaint on Monday, June 15, the records show. Each faces one count of aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony, and one count of complicity to felonious assault, a second-degree felony. The charges stem from a reported early-morning break-in on Saturday, June 13, at the apartment complex at 1730 W. Market St.
What the charges carry
Aggravated burglary, under Ohio Revised Code 2911.11, is a first-degree felony. Felonious assault, under R.C. 2903.11, is a second-degree felony. Under R.C. 2923.03, a person convicted of complicity is punished as if they had committed the underlying offense.
Both charges fall under Ohio’s indefinite sentencing structure, the Reagan Tokes Law. A first-degree felony carries a minimum prison term of three to 11 years, and a second-degree felony a minimum of two to eight years, with the maximum set at one and a half times whatever minimum the judge imposes, according to state law. The two degrees also carry potential fines of up to $20,000 and $15,000, respectively.
Bond set at $500,000; 1 released
Both men were initially held without bond after their arrests, booking records show. On Tuesday, June 16, a magistrate set bond at $500,000 in each case, with no 10% option and with conditions, according to court records.
Kurtz posted bond on Wednesday, June 17, through Allstate Bail Bonds and waived his right to a preliminary hearing, the docket shows. He is represented by attorney Dean Henry.
Norville remained held and was appointed attorney Drew J. Mihalik as counsel, the records show. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday, June 22, at 3:30 p.m. A preliminary hearing determines whether there is probable cause to continue a felony case; Kurtz’s waiver allows his case to move forward without one.
Both cases are being prosecuted by the office of Seneca County Prosecutor Derek DeVine and are assigned to Common Pleas Judge Steve C. Shuff. As of the records reviewed, both cases were listed as active.
What police reported earlier
Officers were called to 1730 W. Market St. at about 2:51 a.m. on June 13 for a reported burglary in progress and found men with facial injuries consistent with an assault, the Tiffin Police Department said at the time. One victim was taken to a Columbus-area hospital and faced surgery for substantial facial injuries, according to the department.
Police have said the break-in followed an earlier altercation near the former Big Lots location on W. Market Street. The department initially reported that a theft preceded the incident but later said no theft occurred. Police had said additional charges were anticipated pending review by the prosecutor’s office; court records now show a second count against both men.
The department said in June that three other men were being sought in connection with the case. The court records reviewed do not show filed charges against anyone other than Norville and Kurtz.
The apartment complex, at 1730 W. Market St., was formerly known as Tiffin West Apartments and was renamed Market Street Flats after new owners purchased the property earlier in 2026.
Both men are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
