TIFFIN, Ohio — Troopers screened 1,086 drivers for signs of impairment at an OVI checkpoint on West Market Street on Friday night and made no arrests inside the checkpoint zone, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
One vehicle was diverted during the two-hour operation, according to the Patrol. The release does not say why.
The checkpoint ran from 7 to 9 p.m. near the intersection of South Shaffer Park Drive, with the Patrol working alongside the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and the Tiffin Police Department. The Ohio Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control.
The operation was paid for with federal grant funds and was held in coordination with saturation patrols working nearby, the Patrol said. Those patrols are intended to reach impaired drivers who never pass through the checkpoint itself.
The Patrol’s results release does not include any figures from the saturation patrols, and it does not report whether officers working them made arrests.
The agency has run joint enforcement campaigns in Seneca County before, including a month-long effort with the Sheriff’s Office targeting failure-to-yield violations.
