TIFFIN, Ohio — Elizabeth Smart, the survivor and nationally known advocate who was abducted from her Utah home as a teenager, will speak in Tiffin next month during a free public event focused on resilience, violence prevention and survivor support.
The Seneca County Violence Prevention Task Force will host “Finding Hope: An Evening with Elizabeth Smart” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Seiberling Gymnasium on the campus of Heidelberg University.
The event is free and open to the public.
Smart was 14 years old when she was abducted from her home in Utah. Following her rescue, she became a national advocate for survivors of abuse and violence and has spoken across the country about resilience, prevention and hope.
“Elizabeth Smart’s story is ultimately one of resilience and hope,” said Kenneth Clason, chair of the Seneca County Violence Prevention Task Force. “We hope her visit will bring people together, encourage important conversations about violence prevention and survivor support, and remind people in our community that help is available.”
The Seneca County Violence Prevention Task Force brings together local agencies, organizations and community members to promote violence prevention, education and awareness of resources available in the community.
The event is being supported by a wide range of local organizations and institutions, including the National Machinery Foundation, Tiffin Community Foundation, Seneca County Common Pleas Court, North Central Behavioral Health Board, Seneca County Department of Job & Family Services, Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital, Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Tiffin Police Department and Heidelberg University.
Attendees are encouraged to RSVP to help organizers plan for attendance. Books by Smart will also be available for optional purchase and signing during the event.
