TIFFIN, Ohio — Four adult men were hospitalized early Saturday after eight suspects allegedly forced their way into an apartment at Tiffin West Apartments and attacked the occupants, the Tiffin Police Department said. Two suspects have been charged with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony.

Officers responded at approximately 2:57 a.m. Saturday, June 13, to 1730 W. Market Street following a report of a burglary in progress and multiple injuries. Police found four adult male victims suffering significant facial and head injuries. Detectives determined the men were assaulted by eight male suspects who allegedly forced entry and attacked them using their fists and objects as weapons.

Earlier theft preceded the apartment attack

Investigators said the incident followed an earlier confrontation late Friday evening near the former Big Lots parking lot in Tiffin, during which a male victim was assaulted and had a hat and chain necklace taken from him.

The victim and four acquaintances later went to Tiffin West Apartments to recover the stolen property. While speaking with a woman at an apartment door, three additional individuals arrived at the scene. Police say five of the eight suspects then forced entry after the door was closed and began assaulting those inside.

A resident inside the apartment called 9-1-1. All eight suspects fled in vehicles before officers arrived.

1 victim transferred to Toledo hospital

All four victims were transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, one victim was later transferred to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo for additional care.

2 arrested; 6 suspects remain sought

Detectives have recovered the stolen hat and chain necklace. Investigators also identified an interior surveillance camera within the apartment that may have evidentiary value.

Two of the suspects believed to have forced entry into the apartment have been taken into custody and charged with aggravated burglary. Additional charges are anticipated pending further investigation and consultation with the Seneca County Prosecutor’s Office. Detectives are actively working to identify and locate the remaining six suspects.

Investigators believe those directly involved range in age from approximately 18 to 21, though some additional suspects not yet located may be older. The identities of all victims, witnesses, and suspects are being withheld to protect the integrity of the investigation.

“This was a violent and brazen attack that resulted in serious injuries to multiple individuals,” Chief David W. Pauly said in a statement. “Our Officers and Detectives have worked tirelessly throughout the early morning hours and continue their work today to identify those responsible and bring them to justice. While two suspects are already in custody, we remain committed to locating the remaining individuals involved and pursuing all appropriate criminal charges.”
