TIFFIN, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol will conduct an OVI checkpoint on West Market Street in Tiffin on Friday evening, working alongside the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and the Tiffin Police Department.
The checkpoint is scheduled to run from 7 to 9 p.m., according to a news release the Patrol issued the same day. The Patrol placed the location on West Market Street near the intersection of South Shaffer Park Drive, on the city’s west side.
The operation is paid for with federal grant funds and is intended to deter and intercept impaired drivers, the Patrol said. Saturation patrols will run in the surrounding area at the same time, targeting impaired driving beyond the checkpoint itself.
Drivers who plan to drink should arrange a designated driver or another way home before they start, the Patrol said.
The agency has run joint traffic enforcement campaigns in Seneca County before, including a month-long effort with the Sheriff’s Office targeting failure-to-yield violations. The Patrol’s Norwalk Post also investigates fatal crashes across the county.
The Patrol typically releases checkpoint results, including the number of drivers screened and any arrests, after the operation concludes.
