The Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division has been awarded a $265,050 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to purchase new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) units. The funding, part of the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, will allow the department to replace aging equipment that is more than 10 years old.
The grant will be used to acquire up to 30 new SCBA units, which are essential for firefighters operating in hazardous environments. These units provide breathable air in conditions compromised by smoke, toxic fumes, or other dangers.
“This grant is a significant investment in the safety and operational capacity of our fire department,” said Fire Chief Rob Chappell. “It will allow us to retire older equipment that has served us well but is now reaching the end of its effective lifespan. These new SCBA units will not only enhance firefighter safety but also improve our ability to respond effectively to emergencies in our community.”
The FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant program supports fire departments nationwide in improving their capabilities and readiness. By securing this competitive grant, the Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division underscores its commitment to maintaining high standards of emergency response for the community.
“We are grateful for the federal government’s support through this grant, which reflects their dedication to bolstering local emergency services,” Chappell said. “This funding will have a direct and positive impact on our ability to protect lives and property in Tiffin.”
