TIFFIN — A 60-year-old man was killed Wednesday night after being struck by a train in Seneca County, according to police records.

Seneca County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched around 8:28 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, to the area of 1525 W. County Road 42 after receiving a report of a train striking a pedestrian.

Deputies arriving at the scene reported evidence of the collision on the locomotive. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dispatch records list a time of death of approximately 8:46 p.m.

The victim’s name had not been publicly released by authorities as of Thursday night. TiffinOhio.net will update this story once officials formally identify him.

Deputies, railroad personnel and the Seneca County coroner’s office remained involved in the response for several hours Wednesday night.

Dispatch records show authorities also worked with Ottawa County officials to contact the man’s family.

The circumstances surrounding the collision, including why the man was on or near the tracks, were not immediately clear.

The investigation remains ongoing.
