CLYDE, Ohio — Evergreen Recycling LLC permanently closed its Sandusky County facility on Feb. 24, eliminating 163 jobs at its plant located at 202 Watertower Drive, according to a WARN Act notice filed with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. All layoffs are expected to be completed by April 24.

The company attributed the closure to a sudden financial collapse triggered by its revolving credit lender. On Feb. 13, the lender withdrew all of Evergreen’s available cash while the company was in active negotiations with multiple prospective buyers, including at least one that was expected to submit a non-binding letter of intent to purchase the company that same week, according to the filing. Four days later, on Feb. 17, the lender notified the company it would seize control of its working capital assets and cease further funding.

“The Revolving Credit Lender’s actions were unforeseeable and unexpected and leave the Company with no option but to cease operations immediately,” the WARN Act notice states.

Company officials said they had actively sought buyers to keep the facility operating as a going concern but were ultimately unable to complete a sale after the lender’s intervention.

Of the 163 affected workers in Clyde, 101 held operations roles, 21 worked in maintenance, and 15 were employed in quality positions. Shipping and receiving accounted for 14 jobs. Accounting, finance, and human resources each accounted for 4 positions. Two IT roles and single positions in safety and the executive office are also being eliminated.

The Clyde facility is not unionized. Evergreen stated that affected workers have been provided information about unemployment assistance through Ohio’s FAST Response program, administered by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Evergreen is also closing a facility in Albany, New York, bringing the total number of employees affected across both locations to approximately 247. Employees or others seeking additional information can contact the company at hr@evergreentogether.com.
