A 49-year-old Oak Harbor woman died early Wednesday when her SUV ran off the Ohio Turnpike and into a ditch in Sandusky County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened at about 3:55 a.m. Aug. 19 on Interstate 80 near milepost 75 in Woodville Township, according to the Patrol’s Swanton Post.

Melody K. Wilburn was driving a 2014 GMC Terrain east on I-80 when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and into a ditch, the Patrol said. Wilburn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wilburn was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash, and impairment is not suspected as a factor, according to the Patrol. The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Lake Township Fire and EMS, the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission, the Sandusky County Coroner’s Office and Madison Motor Service Towing, the Patrol said.

The crash is the second fatal wreck investigated in Sandusky County this month. A 20-year-old passenger was killed and four people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at U.S. 6 and State Route 53 in Ballville Township. In June, a 65-year-old Bettsville man died in a single-vehicle crash on County Road 62 in Jackson Township, and in July a Perrysburg man was killed in an Ottawa County crash.
