TIFFIN, Ohio — A two-day Job & Resource Fair will be staged in the Toledo Molding & Die parking lot later this month to connect more than 350 impacted workers with local and regional employers, even as efforts to sell the Tiffin plant and avert its closure remain active.
The Seneca County Collaborative and the Seneca County Department of Job and Family Services will host the event in a large tent at TMD’s 1441 N. Maule Rd. facility on Thursday, April 23 from 3 to 7 p.m. and Friday, April 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Employers are asked to register at TMDJobs.org and to commit to attending both days to reach workers across all shifts.
The deadline to register is noon on Monday, April 20 — both the cutoff for inclusion in an information packet distributed to workers and the final deadline for employer participation. The Collaborative said early interest indicates participation from 20 or more companies.
An employee-wide meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21. Workers will receive a packet outlining Rapid Response services available through the State of Ohio and a full directory of registered employers.
“This is about being prepared while continuing to remain hopeful,” said Bryce Riggs, President and CEO of the Seneca County Collaborative. “There is still active work happening to support a sale of the facility, and we remain optimistic. At the same time, our responsibility is to ensure that if circumstances change, the employees have immediate access to opportunities right here in our community.”
The Collaborative said it continues to work with the Regional Growth Partnership and JobsOhio on the potential sale of the facility. The closure was announced in a Feb. 27 Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act filing by First Brands Group, LLC, which covered 407 Tiffin jobs and was one of three same-day First Brands plant closures affecting 1,011 Ohio workers in total. First Brands is operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
“The Seneca County Department of Job and Family Services is committed to supporting these workers every step of the way,” said Loren Branski, Director of the Seneca County Department of Job and Family Services. “Our Rapid Response team will be on-site to provide immediate access to services and resources that can help individuals transition quickly and successfully into new opportunities.”
Tiffin Mayor Lee Wilkinson said the dual-track approach reflects both continued pressure toward a sale and a safety net for workers if one doesn’t materialize. “We are continuing to support efforts to keep this facility operating while also making sure we are prepared to support our workforce,” Wilkinson said. “This community has a strong manufacturing base and employers who are ready to step up. This event ensures we are ready, no matter the outcome.”
Information for both employers and impacted workers is available at TMDJobs.org. Workers seeking unemployment, retraining, or job placement services can also reach Ohio Job and Family Services at jfs.ohio.gov or 877-644-6562.
