FOSTORIA, Ohio — A 13-year-old boy was struck by a passing train Monday night in Fostoria and taken to a hospital with what police described as minor to moderate injuries.
Officers with the Fostoria Police Department responded at approximately 10:26 p.m. July 20 to a report of a person struck by a train in the 400 block of South Town Street, in the Seneca County portion of the city, according to a written release from Police Chief Gabe Wedge.
Officers found the juvenile conscious and alert, Wedge said. He was taken to Fostoria Community Hospital for further treatment.
Witnesses told police the boy and another person, also a juvenile, ran around the lowered crossing gates on foot in an attempt to beat the train, according to the release. The second juvenile was not injured.
Wedge said no further information was available. Neither juvenile was identified.
