TIFFIN, Ohio — Tiffin will celebrate Dolly Parton’s music, philanthropy and unmistakable style Friday with a community-wide “Dolly Day” featuring activities throughout the city and an evening gathering at City Lot 6.
The Sept. 25 event is being coordinated by local residents Charlene Thomas, Michelle Tuite and Susan Wilkinson, with businesses and organizations across Tiffin participating throughout the day.
Participating businesses will offer Dolly-inspired specials, activities and experiences, while attendees are encouraged to dress for the occasion.
The main festivities begin at 4 p.m. in City Lot 6.
Activities will include Dolly karaoke, children’s activities, photo opportunities and a large community “Coat of Many Colors” banner that attendees can help color.
Mayor Lee Wilkinson is also scheduled to issue a Dolly Day proclamation.
A live horse will be available for petting and brushing, and The Bagel Buggy, Sargent Oinks and Scoops of Joy will serve food during the event.
The evening will conclude with a community showing of “Steel Magnolias.” Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
Event will support local children’s literacy
Dolly Day will also raise money for the Gase Literacy Fund, which supports Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for children living in Tiffin’s 44883 ZIP code.
More than 1,000 local children receive a free book each month through the program, according to event organizers.
The Tiffin Community Foundation will match donations collected during Dolly Day, doubling the impact of contributions made during the event.
Attendees can also bring gently used books for “Trunk to Read,” an effort sponsored by the Ritz Players. Donated books will be distributed to organizations in need.
Dolly Day organizers said the celebration is intended to highlight kindness, creativity, literacy and giving back — themes associated with Parton’s decades of charitable work.
The event begins at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at City Lot 6 in Tiffin.
