TIFFIN, Ohio — A Seneca County jury has convicted Tyler J. Hossler of rape, sexual battery and attempted rape, roughly a year after sheriff’s investigators announced charges stemming from allegations that he sexually assaulted two women.

Jurors found Hossler guilty Sept. 17 of rape, a first-degree felony; sexual battery, a third-degree felony; and attempted rape, a second-degree felony, according to Seneca County Common Pleas Court records.

The court accepted the verdicts, revoked Hossler’s bond and ordered him remanded into custody while the case proceeds toward sentencing.

Hossler, who was 28 when he was arrested in September 2025, was originally indicted on four felony counts following two separate investigations by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

At the time, Sheriff Fredrick Stevens said the investigations stemmed from allegations that Hossler sexually assaulted two women. A Seneca County grand jury returned an indictment charging him with one count of rape, one count of sexual battery and two counts of attempted rape.

“The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting the safety of the community and ensuring that victims of crime are heard and supported,” Stevens said when announcing the arrest.

Fourth charge remains pending

The fourth count — another charge of attempted rape — was not decided by the jury that convicted Hossler this month.

In March, the court granted Hossler’s request to sever Count Four from the other three charges, ordering that it be tried separately. The Sept. 17 verdict therefore resolved only Counts One through Three.

A separate jury trial on Count Four had been scheduled for Sept. 21 and 22, but the court later granted a defense request to continue that trial.

The court docket now lists a plea hearing and sentencing for Oct. 20 at 2 p.m.

The docket does not yet show that Hossler has entered a plea on the remaining attempted rape charge, and the final disposition of Count Four remains pending.

Case began with 2025 indictment

Hossler was indicted in September 2025 following the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office investigations.

He initially pleaded not guilty to the charges. A magistrate set bond at $500,000 with conditions. Court records show the bond was later posted in October 2025.

The case proceeded through months of pretrial litigation before reaching a jury. Earlier this year, the court granted Hossler’s request to separate the fourth count from the remaining charges.

Following the Sept. 17 guilty verdicts, however, the court revoked Hossler’s bond and ordered a presentence investigation before sentencing.

Hossler has not yet been sentenced on the three convictions.
