TIFFIN, Ohio — Skeletons, pumpkins, spiderwebs and colorful fall flowers have taken over planters along Washington Street as downtown Tiffin gets into the Halloween spirit.
Community members, local business owners, organizations and students from a local school art class have transformed the streetside planters into seasonal displays, each with its own design.
Some feature skeletons surrounded by pumpkins and autumn decorations, while others combine Halloween props with flowers and greenery. One display features a large pumpkin bearing the Tiffin logo alongside a moss-covered skeleton, while another surrounds a skeleton and skulls with spiderwebs, spiders and cascading flowers.
Mayor Lee Wilkinson praised the contributions of residents and students who helped decorate downtown.
“These planters are a great example of the pride people take in our community,” Wilkinson said. “Each one is a little different, and that’s what makes them fun. It’s especially nice to see our young people getting involved and sharing their creativity. I appreciate everyone who took the time to add something special to our downtown.”
The displays will remain along Washington Street throughout October, according to the city.
The decorations also arrive ahead of Downtown Tiffin’s annual Third Thursday Trick-or-Treat and Great Pumpkin Drop on Thursday, Oct. 15. Trick-or-treating at participating downtown businesses begins at 5 p.m., followed by the Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division’s Great Pumpkin Drop at 6:30 p.m. in City Lot 6.
Wilkinson encouraged residents to walk through downtown, see the displays and visit local businesses while the decorations are up.
“Sometimes it’s the little things that make our community special,” he said. “Take a walk, enjoy the creativity, and see what our neighbors have put together.”
