KELLEYS ISLAND, Ohio — Three people were injured Friday evening in a serious golf cart accident on Division Street near Titus Road in the village of Kelleys Island, Erie County.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Sandusky Post reported that the incident occurred around 6:46 p.m. when a 2017 EZGO golf cart, driven by Eleanor Austin, 27, of Clyde, Ohio, lost control. The vehicle veered off the right side of the road and rolled into nearby trees. As a result, Austin and her two passengers, Stela Francic, 25, and Brenda Mesa, 21, both of Sandusky, were ejected from the golf cart.

Emergency services, including the Kelleys Island Police Department, Kelleys Island Fire & EMS, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and Life Flight crews from Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland Metro, and Mercy, responded to the scene.

Austin sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Toledo’s St. Vincent Medical Center. Francic and Mesa were flown to Cleveland Metro Hospital for treatment. Their current conditions are not yet known.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
