UPDATE: Chavis Freeman died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Wednesday.
SENECA COUNTY, Ohio — A two-vehicle crash on State Route 18 at Township Road 15 in Clinton Township, Seneca County, resulted in two fatalities and multiple serious injuries, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 27, at approximately 12:34 p.m. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2018 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Sarah A. Law, 25, of Republic, was traveling east on State Route 18 when it was struck by a 2005 Dodge Magnum. The Dodge, driven by John D. Adcock III, 46, of Fremont, failed to stop at a stop sign while traveling south on Township Road 15, leading to the collision.
Following the impact, the Dodge hit a traffic sign and overturned into a field at the southeast corner of the intersection. The Hyundai also struck a traffic sign before coming to a stop in the same field.
Adcock, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained serious injuries and was airlifted from Tiffin Mercy Health to St. Vincent Medical Center.
Two passengers in the Dodge, Chavis J. Freeman, 40, and Destiny M. Stines, 28, both of Fremont, were also not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle. Stines was pronounced dead at the scene. Freeman sustained serious injuries and was flown directly to St. Vincent Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Law, who was wearing her seatbelt, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Tiffin Mercy Health for treatment.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Tiffin Fire Department, Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department, Seneca County EMS, Mercy Health Life-Flight, Seneca County Coroner’s Office, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and Rush Towing assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
