NORWALK, Ohio — A 16-year-old boy from Willard, Ohio, was killed in a head-on collision involving a car and a semi-truck early Tuesday morning, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.
The crash occurred around 7:15 a.m. on State Route 61 in Greenfield Township, Huron County, according to investigators. Logan T. Lewis, 16, was driving a 2014 Dodge Avenger northbound when his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 2012 Freightliner semi-truck head-on.
The truck, driven by 45-year-old Benjamin D. Mckillips of Berlin Heights, Ohio, caught fire after the collision.
Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. Mckillips sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was initially taken to Willard Hospital before being airlifted to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation. The Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, Huron County Coroner’s Office, and multiple fire and rescue teams assisted at the scene.
