TIFFIN, Ohio — Seneca County Indivisible will host a free, family-friendly “Block Party for Democracy” Saturday at the Tiffin Community Kitchen, combining art, games and voter resources ahead of the 2026 midterm election.
The Sept. 19 event at 125 E. Market St. is part of a broader weekend of similar events being held across Ohio and other states from Sept. 18 through Sept. 20. Organizers of the broader Block Party for Democracy effort describe the events as locally hosted gatherings centered on civic participation, art and voter engagement.
This year’s theme is “Ready, Set, VOTE!” with activities divided into three areas.
In the “Ready” area, attendees will be able to decorate bandanas and signs for dogs, design personal flags, contribute to a collaborative community art project and decorate rocks and bird-themed crafts intended to be shared with others.
The “Set” area will feature hands-on civics games developed by Democracy Lab. Voting-age participants will be able to earn “Democracy Dollars” through the activities and redeem them for prizes.
The “VOTE!” area will provide election-related assistance and resources. Organizers said representatives from the League of Women Voters will be on site to assist attendees with voter registration and provide access to other voting-related resources.
The League of Women Voters of the Tiffin Area describes itself as a nonpartisan organization and lists voter registration and voter education among its local services.
Organizers said the event is intended to reach people who may not typically participate in rallies, canvassing or other traditional forms of political engagement.
“We believe joy is one of the most powerful organizing tools we have,” Brady Dindia, co-leader of Indivisible Next 2sday Arts, said in a statement. “Block Parties for Democracy are designed to welcome the people who wouldn’t come to a rally or open the door for a canvasser, but who will show up for a fun, community gathering.”
Dindia said organizers want attendees to leave having created something, learned something and made sure they are prepared to participate in the upcoming election.
The Block Party for Democracy format was first used in September 2025 at Walter Stinson Park in University Heights, followed by another event in February 2026 in Rocky River. Organizers have since expanded the concept, with local groups hosting their own versions during this weekend’s coordinated series of events.
Activities planned for Tiffin also include a playground, coloring table, crafts, selfie booths and a voting-themed area for children.
“The hope and vision is not just one party in one city, but a growing, repeatable model that any community can pick up — an event that is welcoming and fun, and inspires people to take an active role in our voting process,” said Mariamne Ingalls, co-leader of Indivisible Next 2sday Arts.
