Republican Ohio House candidate Mike Kahoe was formally censured by his own school board in 2020 over a Vermilion incident involving underage drinking.
A July 2020 Revere Board of Education resolution says Kahoe engaged in conduct with other Revere students on or about May 31 that resulted in individuals being cited for underage consumption of alcohol.
Kahoe denied consuming alcohol himself but acknowledged that he was present while other minors were drinking, according to the board’s censure resolution.
The board called Kahoe’s conduct “inappropriate,” said it did not reflect positively on the board and found it inconsistent with the conduct expected of an elected member of the Revere Board of Education.
The resolution formally censured Kahoe for “conduct unbecoming a member of this Board” and for “failing to uphold the standards of ethical, civil and responsible conduct” expected of a board member and representative of the school district.
Censure came months after Kahoe won office
Kahoe was 18 and still a Revere High School student when voters elected him to the school board in November 2019.
Months later, his fellow board members said they had become aware of the Vermilion incident and had already raised concerns with Kahoe about his conduct before moving to publicly censure him.
The board’s resolution says members told Kahoe that his conduct “does not reflect positively on the Board as a whole” and was inconsistent with both the expectations of a Revere school board member and the district’s stated philosophy.
The board placed the formal censure on its July 14, 2020 work-session agenda as an action item.
Kahoe now highlights school board record
Kahoe is now running for the Ohio House and prominently features his Revere school board tenure in his campaign biography.
His campaign website describes him as a “dedicated public servant” and says he “pushed for greater transparency” while serving on the Revere board.
The biography highlights his work on reopening schools during the COVID-19 pandemic, recording school board meetings and later serving on the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center Board of Education.
It does not mention the 2020 public censure.
No police or court record found under Kahoe’s name
TiffinOhio.net sought records from the Vermilion Police Department and Vermilion Municipal Court concerning Kahoe and the May 2020 incident.
Vermilion police said the department had “nothing in file on this subject.”
Vermilion Municipal Court Clerk Danelle Supeck said the court searched its records using Kahoe’s name and date of birth and found no responsive records for the period requested.
The school board’s own resolution does not say Kahoe was cited for underage drinking. It says the incident resulted in individuals being cited, while Kahoe denied consuming alcohol and acknowledged being present while other minors drank.
The board still took formal action against him.
Its resolution says Kahoe’s conduct was inappropriate, failed to reflect positively on the board and fell short of the “ethical, civil and responsible conduct” expected of an elected Revere school board member.
Kahoe faces Democratic candidate J. Noah Spinner in the November 2026 general election.
