GIBSONBURG, Ohio — A 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a July 13 stabbing that left two adults hospitalized, and the Sandusky County Prosecutor’s Office says it will ask a judge to move the case to adult court.

The teen faces two counts of attempted murder, both first-degree felonies, and two counts of felonious assault, both second-degree felonies, according to a press release issued Thursday, July 16, by the office of Prosecutor Beth A. Tischler. The charges were filed in Sandusky County Juvenile Court following an investigation by the Gibsonburg Police Department.

Gibsonburg officers were called to a home on East Yeasting Street on Monday, July 13, where they found an adult woman and an adult man with severe injuries, the release said. The prosecutor’s office said the injuries were consistent with being stabbed and that investigators believe the woman placed the original 911 call. Both adults remain in a hospital in the Toledo area.

A juvenile male was located at the residence with superficial injuries believed to have been caused by a knife, according to the release. He was treated at a hospital before being taken to the Sandusky County Juvenile Justice Center, where he remains.

The prosecutor’s office said the charges grew as the investigation developed. A single count of felonious assault, naming the woman as the victim, was filed the day of the incident, and the teen made an initial appearance in juvenile court the next day, Tuesday, July 14. After reviewing additional evidence, prosecutors said, they added an attempted-murder count naming the woman and attempted-murder and felonious-assault counts naming the man.

Tischler’s office said it will petition the juvenile court to transfer the case to the Sandusky County Court of Common Pleas so the 16-year-old can stand trial as an adult.

The office said it is withholding the identities of both victims “out of respect for their privacy.” TiffinOhio.net does not name juveniles charged with crimes.

Neither the prosecutor’s office nor Gibsonburg police have said how the people at the home are related or what led to the injuries. In an earlier release, Police Chief Donald A. Karr said officers were called to the home about 4:43 a.m. and that a fourth person, also a juvenile, was not hurt. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, a division of the state attorney general’s office, was called to process the scene, and several agencies assisted, including the Woodville Police Department, the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, Sandusky County EMS and the Gibsonburg Fire Department.

The charges are allegations. The case remains in juvenile court unless the transfer petition is granted.
